Our theme for this year's Community Day and International Conference, “Sustain and Remain,” is a commitment to sustaining momentum and leadership on economic development initiatives in African Nova Scotian communities beyond the initial five-year Road to Economic Prosperity Plan. This event is open to anyone who wishes to attend, being mindful that the historic black, African Nova Scotian communities are the focal point of the conversation. This means that non-ANS groups and individuals are welcome to attend as a listening ear and support for the African Nova Scotian community.
This day is all about celebrating and strengthening community through connection, collaboration, and meaningful discussions through:
The exhibit will include an opportunity for African Nova Scotian-owned, operating and/or supporting organizations to pitch their business or organization to attendees. Each will have two minutes to pitch, followed by free-flow information sharing. There will also be support for students, such as a Career Corner, where they can make connections relevant to their goals.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
As we witness a new surge of engagement by African Nova Scotians and unprecedented potential for economic development in our communities, the goal is to ensure our actions are sustainable and forward-thinking and that our progress is built to last. With this thought, our weekend theme, “Sustain and Remain,” is the driving force behind the conversations happening throughout the day.
At the International Conference, we will explore all three Road to Economic Prosperity pillars through conversations with experts from Canada, the United States, and more! The exploration of pillar one will include fireside chats unpacking social, financial, and emotional capital. Two panels will tackle pillar two, bringing a local and international context to land development. For pillar three, we will have a curated conversation covering the topic of education for ANS students and how it impacts their success and longevity in employment and entrepreneurship. A Q&A session will follow all segments of the conference.
Breakfast, refreshments, and lunch will be provided.
